The 2017 Data Analytics Industry Report

We recently teamed up with a market research firm, Drive Research, to gather data from decision makers in the retail & restaurant industries about the current state & future of data analytics software for loss prevention and operations.

The responses from these 200+ decision makers helped provide valuable insight into what keeps retail & restaurant professionals up at night, what are the pain points related to the state of modern data analytics software for LP & store operation, and where we at Agilence rank among the data analytics software market.  A summary of our findings can be viewed below.

Market Research Statistics

A glimpse into how retail & restaurant decision-makers feel toward LP & operational issues, technology, and the current and future outlook of data analytics software in their industry.

Attitude Toward LP & Operational Issues

The (3) most common emotions from decision-makers in the retail & restaurant industries are feelings of

when considering potential fraud, operational, and performance issues that are affecting profits at their store. Additionally, 53% of these decision-makers reported that these issues are CRITICAL to their business operation.

Top Emotions Toward LP & Operational Issues

Importance of Data Analytics Software

Importance of Data Analytics

Directly correlating with the top emotions around fraud, operational, and performance issues, over 80% of non-customers in the retail & restaurant industries state that their attention to data analytics software has increased in the past 5 years.

Confidence in Data Analytics

However, of the non-customer respondents, only about 10% of them feel fully confident in the data analytics software that they are currently using at their organization.

Adoption of Data Analytics Software

Top Barriers for Data Analytics

When rolling out enterprise software, there are always hurdles to clear during the evaluation and decision-making process.  According to our study, the two primary barriers for retail & restaurant organizations when shopping for new data analytics software are the price of the software as well as available IT resources to assist in rolling the enterprise software out.

However, there is a silver lining. Those same respondents rated Agilence’s price and ease of implementation better than the competition!

Cloud-Based Data Analytics Adoption

Many business applications continue to be deployed on premise, however as technology continues to advance there are more and more applications being deployed using the SaaS model.  While there is still a large unbalance of retail & restaurant organizations using cloud-based data analytics software for loss prevention & operations, respondents indicated that they are starting to embrace the idea of the cloud.

Less than 10% of retail & restaurant businesses use SaaS/Cloud for their data analytics implementation.

However, over 50% of them said they are open to making the switch to the cloud.

If data security is your primary concern, Agilence ranked #1 compared to competitive software when it comes to data security, which included both cloud & non-cloud based solutions.
